Edification
In the Bible, edification refers to the process of building up the church and individual believers in their faith, knowledge, and obedience to God. It involves encouragement, guidance, and support to help believers grow in their understanding of God’s word and their biblical knowledge, wisdom, and faith. The New Testament emphasizes the spiritual growth, maturity, and unity of believers within the body of Christ.
Edification is a responsibility of the Church. It involves constructive speech and behavior by Christian disciples and leaders to spiritually strengthen the Church and those whom they interact with outside of the Church. Edification has a purpose - the building up of the body of Christ, which in turn affects evangelism. It is a crucial element of our faith and working together as the body of Christ in the church. Edification is the process of spiritual growth in a Christian who is living according to the plan of God and who is fulfilling the command to grow in the grace and in knowledge of Jesus Christ.
